Terms

Terms of service.

What using this site and the client portal means, in plain language — and where to look for the promises that actually govern your work with us.

Effective: August 20, 2026 · Version 1.0

The short version

Reading this site is free and commits you to nothing. The client portal is for clients and the people they authorize. The work we do for you is governed by the engagement you agree to — not by this page. These terms cover everything around that: what the site's information is and is not, how the portal expects to be used, and what we ask of each other.

What these terms cover

These terms apply to cadencetax.ca and to the client portal at portal.cadencetax.ca — both run by Cadence Tax & Accounting Inc. — and using either means you accept them. If you have an engagement with us, the engagement governs the services themselves, and where the two differ, the engagement wins. Ourprivacy policy — what we collect and where it lives — is its own page and part of the same deal.

The website is information, not advice

The guides and pages on this site explain how Canadian tax rules work in general. We write them carefully, date every figure to the year it is true for, and correct what changes — but a tax outcome turns on facts a page cannot know: your numbers, your structure, your history. Nothing on this site is tax, accounting or legal advice for your situation, and reading it does not make you a client. Advice starts when we have agreed to an engagement and seen your facts. If you act on general information alone, that decision is yours.

What Cadence is — and is not

Cadence is an independent Canadian tax, bookkeeping and accounting services company. It is not a CPA firm and does not provide audits, review engagements or other independent assurance services. Legal services and licensed public-accounting services are provided, where required, by independent professionals.

That boundary matters here for one reason: nothing on this site or in the portal should be read as an audit, a review, an assurance opinion, or the work of a regulated public-accounting practice. If something you need requires a designation we do not hold, we say so and point you to someone who holds it.

Becoming a client

An engagement starts when both sides agree to it in writing — scope, fees and terms are set out there and on thepricing page. Our guarantee is real and has real conditions; its full terms live in one place, on the pricing page, and apply as written there. Your side of the work is the raw material: filings are built from what you give us, so we need information that is complete, accurate and on time.

The client portal

The portal exists to move tax documents between you and us without putting them in email. It is for current clients and the people they have authorized, such as a bookkeeper who sends documents on your behalf. Your sign-in — the Google account, the mailbox that receives a sign-in link, or the mobile number you have verified — is how the portal knows you, so keep it to yourself, and tell us athello@cadencetax.caright away if you think someone else can use it.

Upload only documents you are entitled to share — your own, or those you are authorized to provide for someone else. Do not attempt to access another person's file, probe or overload the service, or use the portal for anything other than exchanging engagement documents. We can suspend or remove portal access to protect client data or the service itself; if that ever affects you, your documents are not destroyed — what happens to your records is governed by your engagement and theprivacy policy.

Availability

We work to keep the site and the portal available and correct, and we do not promise either will be uninterrupted or error-free. Things break, maintenance happens, and providers we build on have outages of their own. When the portal is unreachable, emailhello@cadencetax.caand a person will sort out another way.

Our writing

The writing on this site is ours. Link to it freely, quote it with attribution — that is what it is for. Do not republish it as your own or harvest the library wholesale into another product.

Responsibility, plainly

Two relationships, two answers. If you are using the site without an engagement, what you have from us is general information — we stand behind its care, not behind decisions made on it without us, because we never saw your facts. If you are a client, your engagement and the guaranteesay what we owe you, and nothing on this page shrinks those promises.

Beyond those promises, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses from using the site or the portal. Some laws do not allow parts of their protection to be waived; where that is so, those protections stand and the rest of these terms still apply.

Changes to these terms

When how we work changes, this page changes with it, and the effective date above moves. Material changes get called out, not slipped in. Continuing to use the site or the portal after a change means the current terms apply.
